Hyundai reveals its all-new H350 van

0
0
Over the past few years Hyundai has made a big impression on Europe’s car market. Now, with the imminent arrival of the H350, the Korean manufacturer could soon be doing something similar to the light commercial vehicle segment.

In panel van guise, the H350 has a maximum gross weight of 3,500 kg (7,716 lbs) and it can carry a payload of up to 1,365 kg (3,009 lbs).

There’s a choice of 5,515 mm (18’ 1”) or 6,195 mm (20’ 4”) body lengths, with access to the rear being via a single sliding side-door and a pair of back doors that open to 180° or 270°.

The loadspace, which is separated from the cab by a steel bulkhead, measures 3,100 mm (10’ 2”) or 3,780 mm (12’ 5”) long, 1,955 mm (6’ 5”) high and 1,795 mm (5’ 11”) wide. Five Euro pallets can be accommodated in the stretched variant.

For operators that transport people rather than cargo, a bus version is available in 14- or 15-seat configurations. A flatbed truck completes the range.

Standard equipment includes Bluetooth connectivity, LED daytime running lights, a multi-function steering wheel, electric front windows, hill start assist and a rollover mitigation device.

The statuses of the audio system – which comprises a CD player and DAB digital radio – and trip computer are shown on a centrally-mounted 4.2” LCD screen. Order the optional Android-based satellite navigation and that display gets upgraded to an 8” item.

Powering the rear-wheel drive H350 is a 2.5 litre, four-cylinder, common-rail turbodiesel engine. Euro 5-compliant, it develops 147 bhp (110 kW / 150 PS) with 373 Nm (275 lb/ft) of peak torque in normal tune.

If those figures aren’t sufficient, a higher output version produces 167 bhp (125 kW / 170 PS) and 422 Nm (311 lb/ft). Both alternatives are combined with a six-speed manual transmission and, to help save fuel, a gear-shift indicator and stop-start system are fitted.

Taking a lead from Ford and its Transit, Hyundai is going to build the H350 in Turkey. European market launch dates and prices have yet to be announced.

Aprilia has revealed a new Rally version of the Caponord 1200. An all-terrain tourer, it will be a rival to bikes such as the Triumph Tiger Explorer XC and BMW R 1200 GS Adventure.

As would be expected, the Rally gains numerous equipment upgrades compared to a regular Caponord 1200. These include a set of hard panniers with aluminium covers, additional engine guards, a larger windscreen and extra LED lights. Furthermore, wire-spoke wheels are fitted and the front one has a diameter of 19” instead of the usual 17”.

Also part of the Rally’s specification is the semi-active Aprilia Dynamic Damping suspension set-up, which continuously makes adjustments based on riding style and the surface being travelled over.

Unchanged is the 1,197 cc V-twin engine. Producing 123 bhp (91 kW / 125 PS) and 114 Nm (84 lb/ft) of peak torque, it features a ride-by-wire throttle with three selectable maps. Helping to harness that output is a standard traction control system, while anti-lock brakes take care of stopping.

Sales of the Caponord 1200 Rally are due to begin across Europe during January 2015. Aprilia has yet to announce a price.

McLaren announces the Asia-only 625C

0
0
Do drivers in Asia prefer their supercars with less power and a more comfortable suspension set-up? McLaren clearly reckons that’s the case, because its new 625C has been created especially for the region.

As the name implies, the 625C’s 3.8 litre twin-turbo V8 engine produces 616 bhp (460 kW / 625 PS) rather than the 641 bhp (478 kW / 650 PS) enjoyed by the 650S. Incidentally, the final 12C also had the same lower output.

McLaren 625C Coupé (2015) Front Side

Not that the horsepower deficit affects performance much. With optional Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres fitted, the 625C Coupé accelerates from rest to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.1 seconds and the sprint to 124 mph (200 km/h) takes 8.8 seconds.

By comparison, the 650S achieves those benchmarks in 3.0 and 8.4 seconds respectively, so it’s only marginally quicker. What’s more, both models share an identical 207 mph (333 km/h) top speed.

McLaren 625C Coupé (2015) Rear Side and 625C Spider (2015) Front Side

Nevertheless, the driving experience should be quite different. To give a more refined ride, the 625C gets bespoke dampers, softer rear springs and a recalibrated ProActive Chassis Control system. Another notable chassis change is the use of cast iron brake discs instead of the carbon ceramic items found on the 650S.

The 625C is being offered in both Coupé and Spider guises. Sales have already begun in Hong Kong and launches in other selected territories are due to follow soon.

Volkswagen unveils the Golf Alltrack

0
0
This month’s Paris Motor Show will see the debut of Volkswagen’s SUV-inspired Golf Alltrack.

Like the existing Passat Alltrack, the Golf version takes the estate model and adds 4Motion all-wheel drive, some protective bodywork cladding, redesigned bumpers and a raised ride height.

To help maintain traction over rough terrain the specification also includes hill descent control and an EDS electronic differential lock for both axles. Furthermore, the anti-lock braking system is specially configured for off-road use.

Volkswagen Golf Alltrack (2015) Front Side

Power comes from a selection of four engines. The sole petrol option is a 1.8 litre turbocharged unit that develops 177 bhp (132 kW / 180 PS), while the diesel line-up comprises a 1.6 litre producing 108 bhp (80 kW / 110 PS) and a 2.0 litre that offers either 147 bhp (110 kW / 150 PS) or 181 bhp (135 kW / 184 PS).

Among the Golf Alltrack’s other distinguishing features are a black honeycomb grille, a set of 17” ‘Valley’ alloy wheels, anodised silver roof rails and unique stainless steel doorsill kick plates. Completing the look is a Reflex Silver finish for the door mirror caps, side sills, underbody protection and front bumper crossbar.

Sales of the Golf Alltrack are due to begin in the UK next summer. Prices haven’t been announced yet.

Fiat Doblò refreshed for 2015

0

Fiat has announced a series of styling and technical updates for its Doblò small van.

A complete facelift for the front end brings the Doblò’s looks in line with the Ram ProMaster City, which was launched recently in North America. Modified rear light clusters complete the exterior changes.

Fiat Doblò Cargo (2015) Front Side

It’s a similar story inside the cab, where the Ram’s redesigned dashboard has been adopted. However, that particular enhancement won’t apply to right-hand drive models for some reason, and nor will they be available with a newly-introduced third front seat option.

Fiat Doblò Cargo (2015) Dashboard

Under the bonnet, more torque at lower revs is promised from the 88 bhp (66 kW / 90 PS) 1.3 litre and 103 bhp (77 kW / 105 PS) 1.6 litre MultiJet II turbo diesel engines.

Furthermore, they’re both going to be offered in EcoJet guise for the first time. This delivers improved economy thanks to fuel-saving features such as low rolling-resistance tyres, a stop-start system, an intelligent alternator and better aerodynamics.

UK sales of the 2015 Fiat Doblò are scheduled to begin next spring. Final specifications and pricing will be confirmed nearer to its arrival date.

Moto Guzzi V7 II unveiled

0
0
Although the 2015 Moto Guzzi V7 might look pretty much identical to its predecessor, a comprehensive series of technical enhancements means that the new ‘II’ suffix is justified.

Key among them is the introduction of an electronic traction control system and two-channel anti-lock brakes.

Moto Guzzi V7 II Stone (2015) Side

The 744 cc V-twin engine is unchanged, but it has been tilted forward by 4° and now sits 10 mm (0.4”) lower. As a result there’s some extra knee room which, together with a revised footpeg position, should make the V7 II more appealing to taller customers.

One area that has received a lot of focus is the transmission. A six-speed gearbox features for the first time, while a modified clutch is intended to give a smoother riding experience.

Moto Guzzi V7 II Stone (2015) Front Side

As before, three versions of the V7 II are going to be available when deliveries begin across Europe next month. Along with the entry-level Stone, the range consists of the 1970s-inspired Special and the Racer, which features a very distinctive chrome fuel tank and unique handlebars.

Moto Guzzi has yet to announce UK prices.

2015 BMW R 1200 R revealed

0

BMW has unveiled the all-new R 1200 R, which features some major changes compared to the motorcycle it replaces.

Undoubtedly the most significant update concerns the engine. For the first time, the roadster model is powered by an air- and water-cooled version of the familiar twin-cylinder boxer unit. Displacing 1,170 cc, it sits beneath a tubular steel bridge frame and produces 123 bhp (92 kW / 125 PS) with 125 Nm (92 lb/ft) of peak torque.

BMW R 1200 R (2015) Front Side

The latest R 1200 R also ushers in a revised suspension set-up. While the rear retains a Paralever arrangement, BMW has decided to ditch the innovative anti-dive Telelever front end in favour of an ordinary upside-down fork. Some traditionalists might consider that a backward step.

Standard equipment is set to include 10-spoke cast alloy wheels, anti-lock brakes, Automatic Stability Control and a choice of ‘Rain’ or ‘Road’ riding modes.

However, as expected, buyers are going to be tempted by an extensive options list too. Among the available extras are Electronic Suspension Adjustment, Keyless Ride, Dynamic Traction Control and Gear Shift Assistant Pro which negates clutch use.

Prices and market launch dates for the 2015 R 1200 R have yet to be announced.

2015 Suzuki GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F

For anybody who wants to experience something close to superbike performance without sacrificing comfort or practicality entirely, Suzuki’s new GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F could be ideal.

Identical apart from the ‘F’ version’s fairing, both bikes share a unique frame. Within it sits a 999 cc four-cylinder fuel-injected engine that originally appeared in the 2005 GSX-R1000 K5.

Suzuki GSX-S1000 (2015) Front Side

As Suzuki reckons the GSX-S1000 pair will be bought mainly for street use, a retune has put the focus on low-down torque and mid-range power. Furthermore, a standard three-mode traction control system should help to inspire rider confidence in all conditions (but complete deactivation is possible when it’s not required).

Other features include a Renthal handlebar, lightweight six-spoke alloy wheels, a KYB upside-down front fork and the same aluminium rear swingarm that’s used by the current GSX-R1000. The braking set-up, which consists of Brembo monobloc calipers and floating discs, can be augmented by an anti-lock system.

Supercharged Kawasaki Ninja H2R unveiled

0
0
Turbocharged bikes were a short-lived fad during the 1980s, but now Kawasaki’s Ninja H2R marks the return of the forced induction motorcycle.

However, instead of a turbo, the newcomer’s 998 cc four-cylinder engine uses a specially-developed supercharger. Although actual specs and performance data have yet to be revealed, the target output is a whopping 295 bhp (220 kW / 300 PS).

Kawasaki Ninja H2R (2015) Front Side

The Ninja H2R is built around a trellis frame. It’s designed to be stiff while being capable of sufficient flex to aid stability and give the rider decent feedback. Similarly, the carbon fibre bodywork features aerodynamic elements that are deliberately shaped to keep things planted at high speeds.

A street-legal Ninja H2 is due to be unveiled in November, but the Ninja H2R is intended solely for closed-course use. In other words, it could be the ultimate track day tool.

2015 Honda Civic Type R first view

Honda is making some bold claims for the new Civic Type R, saying that it “promises to be the most extreme and high-performing Type R yet”. And yes, the iconic NSX is being included in that comparison.

Power comes from a 2.0 litre i-VTEC engine which develops ‘more than’ 276 bhp (206 kW / 280 PS) with the aid of a turbocharger.

Honda Civic Type R Concept (2015) Front Side

Delivered via a traditional six-speed manual gearbox, that output is set to put the Honda on a par with rivals such as the 271 bhp (201 kW / 275 PS) Renault Mégane Renaultsport 275 Trophy and 276 bhp (206 kW / 280 PS) Vauxhall GTC VXR.

To help keep the front-wheel drive Civic on the road, its specification includes adaptive dampers and a mechanical ‘steer axis’ system which is reckoned to minimise torque steer. For an even sportier drive, a ‘+R’ button will sharpen both the steering and throttle responses.

Honda Civic Type R Concept (2015) Rear Side

Sales of the Swindon-built 2015 Civic Type R are scheduled to begin sometime next year. Final specifications and pricing details are going to be announced closer to the car’s launch.

After a long absence, BMW’s motorcycle range is once again going to include an RS model powered by a boxer-twin engine.

The 2015 R 1200 RS sports tourer, which has just been unveiled at the Intermot show in Cologne, basically takes the new R 1200 R and adds an aerodynamic half-fairing that incorporates twin headlights and an adjustable windscreen.

BMW R 1200 RS (2015) Side

Mechanically, the RS and R are identical. They share the same tubular steel bridge frame, front upside-down fork / rear Paralever suspension set-up and 1,170 cc motor which produces 123 bhp (92 kW / 125 PS) with 125 Nm (92 lb/ft) of peak torque.

Included on the bike’s standard equipment list are anti-lock brakes, Automatic Stability Control and a choice of ‘Rain’ or ‘Road’ riding modes. It also comes with 10-spoke cast alloy wheels and a TFT display in the instrument cluster.

The R 1200 RS is being offered in a couple of two-tone colour schemes. BMW has still to confirm prices.

Triumph creates the Street Triple Rx edition

A Diablo Red and Matt Aluminium Silver colour scheme certainly gives the new Triumph Street Triple Rx special edition a very distinctive look.

But that’s not the only enhancement. Based on the existing Street Triple R ABS, the Rx also gains a fly screen, pillion seat cowl and belly pan. The fitment of a quickshifter completes the package.

Triumph Street Triple Rx (2015) Front Side

In the UK the Street Triple Rx has an on-the-road price of £8,549, which is £400 more than the regular model costs. Considering all the extra specification, such a premium seems like good value for money.

Honda has unveiled a refreshed CR-V at the Paris Motor Show.

The compact SUV, which continues to be built in Swindon, gets redesigned bumpers and headlights plus a rather fussy new grille. At the rear, the tailgate has been altered and the light clusters now use LEDs.

Honda CR-V Prototype (2015) Front Side

To go with the styling update there’s a change in the engine line-up. Replacing the old 2.2 i-DTEC diesel is a 1.6 litre unit, which is going to be available with all-wheel drive only.

Despite the drop in capacity, an output of 157 bhp (117 kW / 160 PS) is actually 9 bhp (7 kW / 10 PS) up on its predecessor and peak torque remains the same at 350 Nm (258 lb/ft). Buyers will have a choice of six-speed manual or nine-speed automatic transmissions.

Fiat’s 500 family is gaining yet another member. Called 500X, the new arrival is a small crossover that shares its underpinnings with the recently-announced Jeep Renegade.

A multitude of specification choices means buyers will be faced with lots of decisions. For starters, the 500X is being produced in two distinct flavours: one has an urban theme, while the other is aimed at those who want a more adventurous vibe. Twelve paintwork shades and eight wheel styles should ensure plenty of personalisation opportunities.

Fiat 500X (2015) Front Side

And then there are the numerous powertrain configurations. The engine line-up comprises four petrol and three diesel units, which can be variously matched with five-speed manual, six-speed manual, six-speed dual-clutch and nine-speed automatic transmissions. Furthermore, in addition to a regular front-wheel drive set-up, Fiat is offering ‘Traction Plus’ front-wheel drive and an intelligent part-time all-wheel drive system.

Available equipment is set to include a rear reversing camera, blind spot warning, DAB radio, Beats Hi-Fi audio and the Uconnect touchscreen-controlled infotainment system that incorporates Bluetooth and satellite navigation.

The Fiat 500X is scheduled to arrive at UK dealers during the second quarter of 2015. Detailed specifications and prices are going to be confirmed closer to its launch.

Honda says its 2015 Forza 125 is aimed at those people who want a bit more performance and practicality from their scooter.

Built around a steel frame, the newcomer is powered by a single-cylinder, fuel-injected, four-valve, 124.9 cc engine that produces 14.0 bhp (10.5 kW / 14.2 PS) with 12 Nm (8 lb/ft) of torque. It comes connected to a continuously-variable automatic transmission and has been tuned to deliver strong acceleration right across the rev range.

Honda Forza 125 (2015) Front Side

Economy hasn’t been forgotten, though. Thanks to fuel-saving measures such as a stop-start system and low-friction internals, the Forza 125 achieves a very respectable 122.8 mpg (2.3 l/100km / 43.5 km/l) according to the World Motorcycle Test Cycle measure.

Fitted as standard are cast aluminium wheels, anti-lock brakes with discs front and rear, full LED lights, a 12V socket in the glovebox and an adjustable windscreen. Among the available accessories are heated grips and a top box.

UK deliveries are expected to begin around the middle of next year. BMW updates its S 1000 RR for 2015

0
0
A bit more power, less weight and redesigned bodywork define the improved 2015 BMW S 1000 RR.

Engine enhancements include a modified exhaust, cylinder head, airbox and intake system. As a result, output is up by 6 bhp (4 kW / 6 PS) to 196 bhp (146 kW / 199 PS), plus the 113 Nm (83 lb/ft) of peak torque now arrives in a more linear fashion.

BMW S 1000 RR (2015) Front Side

Alterations to the frame structure and the fitment of a smaller battery mean the 2015 S 1000 RR tips the scales at 204 kg (449 lbs) with a full tank of fuel. That represents a useful 4 kg (8 lbs) reduction compared to the old model.

To complement the diet, BMW has altered the bike’s wheelbase, steering head angle, swingarm pivot point and wheel castor. Those tweaks are reckoned to deliver better feedback, traction and handling.

The styling changes focus on the fairing. However, they aren’t particularly noticeable, especially as the headlights retain their odd (yet distinctive) asymmetrical arrangement. Of more interest to riders will probably be the new instrument cluster which incorporates an upgraded LCD display.

A price has still to be announced, but whatever it is buyers should be prepared to spend more. That’s because of the numerous cost options being offered. Among them are Dynamic Damping Control, HP Gear Shift Assist Pro, cruise control, Dynamic Traction Control and a Pro riding mode that incorporates launch control.
