Suzuki has a long history of producing small four-wheel drive vehicles. That tradition is continued with the iM-4 concept, which has made its début at the Geneva Motor Show.

Measuring 3,693 mm (12’ 1”) long, 1,709 mm (5’ 7”) wide and 1,566 mm (5’ 2”) tall, it sits on an all-new compact modular platform. The iM-4's elegant styling incorporates a clamshell bonnet, a high belt line, dramatic C-pillars and a rounded roof panel.

Power comes from a 1.2 litre Dualjet petrol engine with SHVS. Those initials stand for Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki, a new 'mild' hybrid system that's designed to be both compact and lightweight. The set-up comprises regenerative braking, an integrated starter-generator and lithium-ion batteries.

The iM-4 could become a long-overdue replacement for the aged Jimny, but Suzuki hasn't confirmed any production plans.

As well as the iM-4 concept, Suzuki has also unveiled the iK-2 at this year's Geneva Motor Show.

It previews a five-door hatchback which is due to be launched across Europe in early 2016. Based on a new platform, the iK-2 measures 4,023 mm (13’ 2”) long. That makes the Suzuki slightly larger than B-segment models such as the Ford Fiesta or Volkswagen Polo.

The concept features a turbocharged, direct-injection 1.0 litre Boosterjet petrol engine. Output and performance figures haven't been disclosed, but Suzuki is promising enhanced fuel efficiency.

Chevrolet's latest Colorado special edition is intended for serious all-terrain use. Called the Trail Boss, it features the Z71 package plus some additional off-road equipment.

An automatic locking rear differential and Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tyres mounted on 17” cast-alloy wheels should help to maintain progress over rough ground. However, if the Trail Boss does get stuck, front recovery hooks are also fitted.

Other components include projector-beam headlights, front fog lights, side steps, black wheel arch extensions and a spray-on bedliner. Tie-down rings, a load bar and a cargo divider from the GearOn accessory range complete the extra specification.

Trail Boss sales are due to begin this spring. Buyers have a choice of extended or crew cabs, which can be combined with either short or long cargo boxes. Naturally four-wheel drive is available too (indeed, why would anybody order this particular Colorado without it?).

Prices in the United States start from $31,825.

McLaren has confirmed that the new 675LT is going to cost from £259,500. Intended as a more extreme, track-focused version of its 650S, around a third of the car's components are modified.

To start with, dry weight has been slashed by 100 kg (220 lbs) to 1,230 kg (2,711 lbs). A polycarbonate engine cover, Alcantara-covered carbon fibre seats, thinner glazing and a titanium exhaust have all contributed to the diet.

Attention was paid to the aerodynamics too. McLaren says downforce is up by 40%, thanks partly to a larger front splitter and a more effective diffuser. At the rear, the 675LT lives up to its 'Longtail' suffix by having a bigger carbon fibre airbrake.

Chassis enhancements include stiffer springs and tracks that are wider by 20 mm (0.9”). Furthermore, the suspension settings have been recalibrated and the steering is more responsive.

To complement those changes, output from the 3.8 litre V8 twin-turbo engine is up by 25 bhp (18 kW / 25 PS) to 666 bhp (496 kW / 675 PS). Revisions to the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission promise quicker gear changes, plus they now also benefit from an 'Ignition Cut' device.

As a result, the 0-62 mph (100km/h) time has fallen from 3.0 to 2.9 seconds, while the 0-124 mph (200 km/h) sprint takes 7.9 instead of 8.4 seconds. Top speed however is actually down by 2 mph (3 km/h) to 205 mph (330 km/h).

Optionally available is the Club Sport package. Comprising a fire extinguisher, four-point seat harnesses and a titanium roll hoop, it will add £5,090 to the invoice.

Production of the 675LT is being limited to just 500 examples. Deliveries are expected to begin in July 2015.

Nissan might be about to launch a rather interesting-looking small hatchback. The Sway, which has been unveiled in concept form at the Geneva Motor Show, adopts a striking design that's intended to appeal to European tastes.

A length of 4,010 mm (13’ 2”) means it would slot into Nissan's range between the 3,780 mm (12’ 5”) Micra and 4,100 mm (13’ 5”) Note. The new model could even replace the former.

One of the Sway's most arresting styling cues is a continuous swage line that starts from the V-shaped front grille, kinks down through the front doors and then ends across the tail. Further visual interest is provided by the blacked-out C-pillars, distinctive rear light clusters and two-tone colour scheme.

Certain elements probably won't survive the transition to production, though. They include an absence of any B-pillars, the rear-hinged back doors and the glazed roof with its integrated X-structure.

For the interior, Nissan has used structural aluminium components and a simple 'gliding wing' dashboard. Faux-suede dark blue upholstery is complemented by ivory and orange trim.

As the name suggests, Abarth's 500 Bi-Colore Edition sports a sophisticated-looking Scorpion Black and Record Grey two-tone paintjob.

A price of £15,990 means it costs £1,430 more than a regular 500 Custom. However, the Bi-Colore Edition is also equipped with leather upholstery, rear privacy glass and 17” ten-spoke wheels. Those three items, which are usually optional, account for most of the premium.

Acting as a further incentive is a £500 deposit contribution on a personal contract purchase finance scheme. The car must be registered before the end of March 2015 in order to qualify, though.

Mechanically everything remains unchanged, so power comes from the familiar 1.4 litre turbocharged petrol engine. Producing 133 bhp (99 kW / 135 PS), it's combined with a five-speed manual transmission.

The Abarth 500 Bi-Colore Edition is available to buy now. Just 50 examples are being produced for the UK market.

Ram has added the limited edition Ignition Orange Sport and Black Sport variants to its 1500 pick-up range.

Both so-called 'buzz' models come in crew cab form only. Their standard specifications include a 5.7 litre Hemi V8 engine and an eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission, while four-wheel drive is optionally available.

As well as its bright orange paintwork, the 1500 Ignition Orange Sport is distinguished by a matte black bonnet decal. Inside, the same vivid shade is used for the seat inserts, stitching and embroidery.

Unsurprisingly the 1500 Black Sport features an all-black colour scheme that extends to the grille inserts and 20” wheels. It's a similar story for the interior, although some dark chrome trim attempts to alleviate the blackness.

In the United States, pricing for the Ram 1500 Sport Crew Cab starts from $42,215 (inclusive of a destination charge). Ordering either the Ignition Orange or Black packages will increase that figure by $1,595.

Production of each is being restricted to 1,000 examples.

Traditionally, specifying a diesel engine has been the default solution for BMW X5 buyers wanting to experience comparatively decent fuel economy. Now though there's an alternative in the form of the xDrive40e.

The important part of that name is the 'e' at the end, because it denotes that the new variant is a plug-in hybrid. So as well as a 241 bhp (180 kW / 245 PS) 2.0 litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine, power also comes from a 111 bhp (83 kW / 113 PS) synchronous electric motor which is integrated into the eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission.

Total system output is rated at 308 bhp (230 kW / 313 PS). Delivered to all four wheels, it's enough for a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of 6.8 seconds. Top speed meanwhile is an electronically-limited 130 mph (210 km/h), but that figure drops to 75 mph (120 km/h) when operating in pure electric mode.

Another pivotal drivetrain component is the 9.0 kWh, 96-cell, lithium-ion battery pack. Housed beneath the luggage compartment floor, it offers an electric-only range of up to 19 miles (31 kilometres).

Recharging via a domestic socket takes around 3 hours 50 minutes from flat to fully replenished. If that's too long, installing a BMW i Wallbox Pure or Pro reduces the time to about 2 hours 45 minutes. Public charging stations can also be used when away from home.

According to official stats, the X5 xDrive40e achieves an impressive 85.6 mpg (3.3 l/100km) on the combined cycle with standard wheels and tyres. Carbon dioxide emissions in the same configuration are just 77 g/km. Of course, efficiency in real-world conditions might be very different...

Standard equipment is set to include satellite navigation, adjustable dampers, self-levelling rear air suspension and dual-zone climate control with auxiliary heating and ventilation. However, BMW has yet to announce pricing.

Honda's SH300i scooter is getting an update. Although restyled bodywork is the most visible change, beneath it lies a new steel backbone frame.

Power comes from a 279 cc, fuel-injected, liquid-cooled engine. Euro 4-compliant, this single-cylinder unit is claimed to deliver higher torque and better economy than before.

Standard features include disc brakes front and rear that benefit from a two-channel anti-lock system. Also part of the SH300i's specification are LED light clusters and a 'smart key' that can activate the seat release or ignition within a two-metre range. Practicality should be improved too, thanks to increased under-seat storage space.

The riding position has been made slightly more upright, but a seat height of 805 mm (31.7”) isn't especially low. At least wet weight is down by 1 kg (2.2 lbs) to 169 kg (372 lbs).

Buyers of the 2015 SH300i will have a choice of six paint colours, plus there's a decent range of accessories. However, Honda has yet to confirm UK availability.

Volkswagen has released a sketch of its upcoming sixth-generation Transporter van.

At this stage no technical details are known. However, the styling – as foreshown by 2014's Tristar concept – appears to be a gentle evolution of the current model's.

The T6 Transporter is due to be unveiled on the 15th of April. UK sales will then begin later this year.

Most adventure-style motorcycles have long-travel suspension, which invariably means an elevated saddle and a high centre of gravity. That's definitely not the case with Honda's new Bulldog, though.

Unveiled in concept form at the Osaka Motorcycle Show, it has a seat height of just 730 mm (28.7”). Helping to keep things low are a pair of 15” five-spoke wheels shod with wide knobbly tyres.

Usefully, generous side protection bars are fitted and the exhaust is mounted up out of harm's way. For luggage carrying there are racks front and rear, plus mini panniers can be attached to each side of the fuel tank.

Power is provided by a liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder, 399 cc engine borrowed from the CB400. It's mated to a six-speed gearbox.

Honda has yet to confirm any production plans, but the rugged-looking Bulldog certainly has the potential to become an interesting niche model.

Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations has teamed up with renowned designer Paul Smith to create a unique Defender.

The colour palette used on the bodywork was inspired by the countryside and military vehicles. In fact, it comprises twenty-seven different shades.

What's more the wheels, mirror housings and door handles all wear a special satin finish, while a hand-painted bee motif on the roof completes the look.

Inside, the seats are covered with black leather. But the ambience isn't completely dark, because contrast is provided by Maharam fabric inserts and blue stitching.

Rumours of a move into Formula One persist, but for now at least Audi remains fully committed to the FIA World Endurance Championship. Its contender for the 2015 season is a heavily-revised R18 e-tron quattro.

Alterations to the car's styling have focussed on aerodynamic improvements. While the basic monocoque is essentially unchanged, the front bodywork is all-new. Furthermore, the engine cover is more compact and modified sidepods should better deliver cooling air to the radiators.

Audi has also taken the opportunity to enhance the R18's hybrid powertrain. In a significant move, its 4.0 litre V6 TDI diesel engine – which produces 550 bhp (410 kW / 558 PS) – uses 2.5% less fuel than before.

Such an efficiency gain is required by the regulations, because the amount of energy available from regenerative braking on each lap of Le Mans has been doubled from two to four megajoules. Stored within a flywheel system, that extra output is sent to the front wheels via a 268 bhp (200 kW / 272 PS) electric motor.

This year's World Endurance Championship begins next month with the 6 Hours of Silverstone.

A sporty lean-forward riding position and some other unique features characterise Yamaha's new XV950 Racer.

Helping to achieve a retro café racer look are clip-on handlebars, a headlight cowl, rear-set footrests and a single seat unit. A pair of aluminium side panels are fitted too.

Also part of the specification is a revised suspension set-up that offers extra travel compared to a regular XV950's. Furthermore, the front fork gains protective gaiters while the rear benefits from twin piggyback gas dampers.

One component that's unchanged is the 942 cc air-cooled V-twin engine. It still produces 51 bhp (38 kW / 52 PS) with 79 Nm (58 lb/ft) of peak torque and comes connected to a five-speed transmission.

A UK price for the XV950 Racer has yet to be announced, but Yamaha has confirmed that buyers will have a choice of Glacier Blue or Matt Grey paintwork.

For its latest special editions, Holden has revived the Sandman moniker that first appeared on various models during the 1970s. The 2015 versions – which are based on the VF Commodore Sportwagon and Ute – are intended to evoke the surfing-inspired vibe of the originals.

Taking either the SV6 or more sporty SS-V trim grades as their starting points, the modern Sandman variants are going to be available in a choice of Phantom Black, Nitrate Silver or Heron White.

Complementing the paintwork are some suitably retro (but quite restrained) body graphics, a set of 20” gloss black wheels and a black grille package. The Sportwagon additionally gets black roof racks, while the Ute comes with a black sports bar.

Inside, there are some Sandman floor mats and sunshades, plus the dashboard features unique stitching. Orange sheepskin seat inserts and a matching shag pile rug for the Sportwagon's cargo area are on the options list, but surely specifying them should be compulsory?

Sales of the 2015 Sandman Special Editions are due to begin in June. Each will attract a price premium of A$2,950.

Peugeot to introduce textured paint finishes

Most manufacturers strive to give their cars smooth and blemish-free paintwork. However, Peugeot is set to do exactly the opposite by offering its newly-facelifted 208 with two exclusive textured matt shades.

Called Ice Grey and Ice Silver, they've apparently taken four years to develop. Their secret is a unique lacquer which incorporates fine silica particles and polyamide micro-balloons. As a result, it's claimed that the granular finish is hard-wearing and scratch-resistant.

If some extra contrast is needed, Menthol White or Lime Yellow styling packs can be specified for the exterior and interior.

In the UK, the textured paint options both cost £645. For those who don't fancy them, the refreshed Peugeot 208 is also going to be available with a 'normal' selection of solid, metallic and pearlescent colours.

Sales begin in June.

Buick's 2016 Enclave crossover line-up is going to include the distinctive Tuscan Edition.

Its identifying features comprise a bronze-coloured grille and a set of 20” chrome-covered wheels with bronze accents. To complement those elements, a choice of Dark Chocolate Metallic, Ebony Twilight Metallic or White Frost Tricoat premium paint finishes will be available.

The Tuscan Edition, which arrives at dealers this summer, is based on the existing Leather Group or Premium Group trim grades. Like the regular Enclave models, power comes from a 288 bhp (214 kW / 292 PS) 3.6 litre V6 engine that can be paired with either front- or all-wheel drive transmissions.

A new limited edition is joining the MV Agusta range. Called the F4 Reparto Corse, it's a replica of the motorcycle being ridden by Leon Camier in this year's Superbike World Championship.

In this case, 'replica' doesn't just mean taking the existing F4 RR and applying a fancy competition livery (although that is part of the F4 RC's specification, along with a choice of race number). The modifications aren't merely cosmetic...

For instance, dry weight is down from the F4 RR's 190 kg (418 lbs) to 183 kg (403 lbs), thanks to carbon fibre fairing elements, a lighter crankshaft, various magnesium covers, carbon fibre mudguards and the use of titanium bolts. What's more, the 17” forged aluminium wheels have been specially created for the F4 RC.

That figure then drops to 175 kg (386 lbs) when components from the 'ready to race' kit are fitted. Included as part of the standard package, it comprises a carbon fibre rear seat cowl, red anodised plugs to replace the rear-view mirrors, a titanium Termignoni exhaust, a dedicated control unit and a quick-release fuel tank cap.

To further improve the bike's power-to-weight ratio, the 998 cc four-cylinder engine that powers the F4 RC gains revised internals plus bespoke intake and exhaust ducts.

As a result, output is 202 bhp (151 kW / 205 PS) in normal configuration or 209 bhp (156 kW / 212 PS) in race mode. Peak torque meanwhile is 115 Nm (84 lb/ft). By comparison, a regular F4 RR has 198 bhp (147 kW / 201 PS) with 111 Nm (81 lb/ft).

Among the upgraded chassis items is an Öhlins front fork that divides the compression and rebound functions between its two legs. At the rear, there's an Öhlins twin-tube damper unit with a piggyback reservoir. All suspension and steering damper adjustment is mechanical rather than electronic, because that again helps to reduce mass.

Production of the hand-made F4 RC will be restricted to 250 examples. Its UK price is a very substantial £30,999 though, so demand shouldn't exceed supply by too much.

Ford is giving the Ranger pick-up a comprehensive update. Changes announced include refreshed styling, a revised suspension set-up and upgraded engines.

A front-end facelift is the most obvious difference. Successfully implemented, its main elements are a new trapezoidal grille, slimmer projector headlights and a redesigned bonnet.

In an effort to make the ambience more car-like, the interior has also received attention. There's additional sound insulation, plus the dashboard now incorporates a TFT instrument cluster and a centrally-mounted 8” colour touchscreen. Furthermore, technologies such as a driver impairment monitor, adaptive cruise control and a lane-keeping aid will be offered on the Ranger for the first time.

One general criticism often aimed at pick-ups is their ride quality. For the latest Ranger this should be less of an issue, because the springs and dampers have been recalibrated.

Power is provided by a selection of four engines: a 2.2 litre Duratorq TDCi four-cylinder diesel in either 128 bhp (96 kW / 130 PS) or 158 bhp (118 kW / 160 PS) guises, a 197 bhp (147 kW / 200 PS) 3.2 litre Duratorq TDCi five-cylinder diesel and a 163 bhp (122 kW / 165 PS) 2.5 litre Duratec petrol.

Crucially, Ford is saying that efficiency has been improved by up to 22% thanks to a longer final drive ratio, the introduction of electric power-assisted steering and the availability of a start-stop system.

Ford intends to build the 2016 Ranger at three sites. Those vehicles destined for African and European markets are going to be manufactured in South Africa, while plants in Thailand and Argentina will take care of production for the Asia Pacific and Latin America regions respectively.

Sales are due to begin later this year.

Sales of the Honda S660 roadster are about to begin in Japan, so to mark the occasion a special Concept Edition has been created.

Its unique specification includes Star White Pearl paintwork, a Bordeaux red 'roll-top' roof, two-tone door mirror caps and water-repellent coatings for the body and glass.

Inside, the Concept Edition gains a commemorate aluminium plaque, a central dashboard display screen and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Rather oddly the two seats are covered with different shades of grey leather, but they both feature red stitching.

As per the regular S660, power comes from a mid-mounted, three-cylinder, turbocharged, 660 cc petrol engine. It drives the rear wheels via either a six-speed manual gearbox or a continuously variable transmission.

Production of the S660 Concept Edition will be restricted to 660 examples, which seems like an apt number.
